Have you ever gotten distracted by something when you are focused on a project or task that is paramount that you complete? Sometimes distractions come in the form of people or things. There are times when we will reorder our priorities to focus on the distraction! It’s not intentional, but because we are human and want to satisfy the flesh, we will choose the good thing and leave the best thing for later.
I’ve struggled all year to be focused on the vision God gave me many years ago. To be candid, I haven’t been committed to my purpose. I got distracted by life, work, and other priorities, and I allowed the flame of my passion to die down to a mere flicker.
I knew that when I started my journey to live purposefully that it would be a challenge for me. You see, I have a hard time focusing, and I get easily distracted. When kids have a hard time focusing we say they have ADHD, but adults can suffer from it as well. I really don’t have ADHD, but I do struggle with persevering.
When I wrote the tagline for Purposeful Living – Passion..Power..Perseverance, I knew my greatest obstacle would be Perseverance. I know I’m not alone. Some of you who are reading this post struggle with persevering too. However, there is hope for me and you because one of my favorite Bible verses tells me that God gives perseverance and encouragement, Romans 15:5.
I recently spoke at a women’s conference in Scottsdale, AZ and I was able to reconnect with a young lady by the name of Kandice Porter who I had met a few years ago. Kandice has a beautiful voice, and she is so creative that she always stands out. I was able to sell some of my devotionals on Discover the Path to Your Purpose at the conference. Kandice supported me by purchasing one of the books. I decided to take the books at the last minute and I’m glad I did. There are times when we can inspire others with our words and not know that the words we spoke helped someone to make it through the day. Kandice motivated me to refocus and recommit to my purpose, with her words and the picture she posted on Facebook last month.
“Sometimes we already know our purpose, but it’s always great to get a little refresher on why we were put on this earth. Especially when you have been operating in your purpose and you encounter stumbling blocks, detours or dead ends. I’m grateful for this 10-day devotional, Discover the Path to Your Purpose by Pat Hartman! It’s getting me back in the swing of living my life ON PURPOSE!”
Each time I read her words I feel so loved by God. Nothing in our lives happens by luck or happenstance. Jesus saw me struggling this year, and He sent Kandice to share these words of encouragement with me. Kandice, I thank you for your obedience to write the post. You ignited the flicker within me to refocus…recommit to living purposefully, and live out the purpose and plan God has for me.
What do you need to refocus on…recommit to? It’s never too late to refocus…recommit!
Blessings and peace to you,
